Opponauts, this is my first post. I recently bought my first car, a 1998 mustang GT 5-speed. My brother is Bandit and he is still teaching me how to drive a manual. I won't have my license till spring but that gives me time to work on the car. So far the thing has had tons of suspension upgrades, a cold air intake, and a short shift kit. I plan on cleaning up the interior, swapping rims, blacking out/debasing the body, and adding a front splitter. It's a good bit faster than my brothers Trans Am. Any ideas on a name for it? Murderstang has a nice ring to it.

Welcome aboard! And that's a pretty sweet looking 'Stang. What are you planning on switching the rims to?

Also, a little disappointed that you didn't go with Smokey to complement your brother's Bandit.

I also have a 98 Mustang, but it's a V6 Manuel. It's been in my "shop" for about six months because I was too lazy to finish installing the poly bushings. Here is a photo of it drifting.

Welcome! That's a really nice 98 GT, I don't see many that look that clean. How many miles are on it?

Since everyone else is posting their own fourth gen Mustang's, here's mine

Kinja'd!!!

I feel like I need to warn you though, these cars sometimes have... Quirks. Nothing serious, just annoying. Occasionally, only the drivers side window won't go down. This can be solved by hitting the door or just waiting for it to work again. You can also just get a new window motor. The interior dome light may sometimes not turn off. A pin inside the door is stuck, so just spray some WD40 in to the door jam.

Enjoy the car!

Ironically, my first car was a 1990 Maxima with adjustable sport suspension and like, 160 HP in a 3100lb package. That's a P/W ratio of only 13% worse than a Mustang, despite being 4 doors and FWD.

11/29/2014 at 22:30

Thanks! That's some good mileage, just make sure you keep up on maintenance and it'll last a long time. A friend of my dad's had one of those and had well over 200K. Until he sold it to another friend and did some really stupid things...

I have no idea on stripes. My best advice would be to look at what other people have done and choose what you like best. Lately I've seen newer Mustang's with the classic rocker stripes but with a pony instead of words like GT, I really like that. Sites like American Muscle and Late Model Restoration also sell stripes. Or if you know a place that will do it custom and make something of your own.

One more thing, Oppo is a great place if you have questions. There's so many knowledgeable people here. I've gotten so many good answers. So just ask if you've got any questions!

Thank you! Here's a list (lol)
MGW Short Throw
MM Full Length SFCs
MM Coilovers up front, koni SA's
JLT Next Gen Intake
Roush Argent Wheels 18x9 up front 18x10 in the rear (those were a PITA to find)
Sequential turn indicators, mach 1 chin, and smoked cobra headlights.
I have MM rear LCA's and coilovers to go in, but i needed to cut the bolt to remove the control arms, haven't gotten around to it, so I'm riding on H&R race springs out back with Koni SA shocks for now.

Awesome, that's a great base. If you don't have subframe connectors I highly recommend you do them, best money i've spent on mine. Gold graphics would work well, as long as you don't go overboard. My vinyl stripe was factory so I didn't have a choice haha.

You can't go wrong with gold GT stripes on a black SN95.. And maybe some 96-98cobra wheels with gold accents where they're painted gray from the factory...

Kinja'd!!!

that would be pretty hot...

Kinja'd!!! raygone > 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST
11/30/2014 at 00:45

Kinja'd!!!1

They were haha. I need to get them powdercoated white though, plasti dip is nice but a stopgap. The Konis aren't bad! They ride nice, though I installed them at the end of the season + i live on an island, so I haven't been able to take them to an Autox like I wanted; but the thing corners FLAT. Much flatter and more stable than stock suspension, especially with SFCs. Instills a lot more road confidence in dry weather.

So my father gave me the idea, on top of yours as custom rocker stripes, saying Mach 1. Though this year did not contain a Mach 1 , he said with all the things done to it, it could make sense. Before I would make that decision what do you think?

Kinja'd!!! 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST > SN95GT
11/30/2014 at 13:43

Kinja'd!!!0

I'm not a huge fan of that idea. To some people that would be like putting a Cobra badge on a V6. But that does give me another idea. You could come up with a name of your own. I guess that would depend on the direction you want to take the car though.

Kinja'd!!! raygone > 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST
11/30/2014 at 16:03

Kinja'd!!!0

the konis are great, but if you want something you don't have to worry about adjusting, the Bilsteins or Maximum Motorsports dampers and shocks + their coilover kits work just as well.

Kinja'd!!! 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST > raygone
11/30/2014 at 18:12

I've been thinking about the Bilsteins. I've looked at Maximum Motorsports but I don't want coilovers. Well, I don't want to pay the price. They're expensive!

Kinja'd!!! raygone > 03mach1 - Now has a Fiesta ST
11/30/2014 at 19:31

Kinja'd!!!1

Honestly, they're worth it. Build quality is awesome, and it's made in the US. If you're looking for cheaper coilovers, BC makes some for our cars; I'm just not sure on the quality or performance. You can give them a call (or shoot them an email) and their techs (sales rep in a phone call) will provide a good response. last time I called they were very knowledgeable.

Nope, I'm not the most creative person unfortunately. Nor do I know anyone else who is. You could always ask others. But just remember, this is your car. If you really want to do something then do it. Even if you really like the Mach idea, then go for it. You know, the Mach III concept did preview the fourth generation Mustang...
